Students from Beijing and CPS celebrate Chinese New Year together
The auditorium at the Walter Payton College Prep High School (WPCP) was filled with cheers and applauses on Wednesday morning, Jan. 29. Students from the Chinese language program at nine different CPS schools gathered here to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a performing troupe from the Affiliated High School of the Renmin University in Beijing.
The Chinese school, Ren Da Fu Zhong in Chinese (RDFZ), brought a number of Chinese songs, dances, acrobatics, and martial arts to hundreds of CPS students.
Joint performance to celebrate the Chinese New Year
To celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, CIC is hosting a Performing Troupe from the Renmin University's Affliliated Hight School (Beijing, China) to perform for CPS students, along with performance presented by CPS students. The performance will be held at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School from 10:00 to 11: 15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.

Chinese Acrobatics Performance
Principals and Teachers of Chinese World Language Program at CPS:
To celebrate the Chinese New Year, CIC is hosting a group of professional acrobatic performers from China to perform for Chicago Public Schools students. Performances are scheduled at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School on Wednesday, February 19, 2014.
Performance 1: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.; and Performance 2: 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Celebrating the Chinese New Year--The Year of the Horse

To celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year (Spring Festival), the Confucius Institute in Chicago (CIC) will provide two 48” long firecracker hangings for each CPS school which has a Chinese World Language Program. They can be used for decoration or utilized to teach about the Chinese New Year celebration and tradition.

CIC brings Chinese master painter to CPS students
CIC introduces traditional Chinese painting to CPS students by inviting Kuai Huizhong, a master painter from China, to 20 elementary and high schools in November. The demonstration and teaching will last for two weeks.
2013 CPS Chinese Summer Language, Culture and Technology Initiative (CSLCTI) completed with success
CSLCTI is a district wide full scholarship study abroad summer program. It is made possible by the generous support from Wanxiang America Cooperation, the largest Chinese company in Chicago. The four-week intensive Chinese immersion program at Hangzhou Wanxiang Polytechnic (WXP) is also part of President Obama’s 100,000 Strong Initiative. A total of 24 high school students of Chinese traveled to Hangzhou, China, in July.
Winner of Mid-West Regional Chinese Bridge Competition
Teshurah Lee of Westinghouse won the 3rd place at the Mid-West Regional "Chinese Bridge" Competition, which was held at Webster University in St. Louis, MO on Aug. 24, 2013. Lee is qualified to participate in the 6th Chinese Bridge-Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students in China, to be held from Oct. 18 to Nov. 5. In this global event, more than 100 high school contestants from nearly 50 countries will compete for team and individual awards. Of all the nine students on the US delegation, Lee is the only one from IL.
Winners of "Confucius Institute Cup" int'l composition competition
Emma Wang and Harrison Hicks of LaSalle Language Academy both won the 3rd Prize and the Encouragement Award in "Confucius Institute Cup" International Composition for Chinese Language Learners. A great honor and accomplishments. Congratulations!
