The Collective Approach was first employed by the famous Chinese linguist Yuanren Zhao in a Chinese class at Harvard in 1940s in the Army Specialized Training Program. Since then, it has been consistently used in many well-known universities in the U.S. such as Princeton, Columbia, Middlebury and Harvard.
