Workshop: Ten Key Concepts You Should Know in Teaching Grammar Unfolding Misconceptions and Myths By Dr. Miao-fen Tseng

Saturday, March 9, 2019 - 9:00am to 2:00pm
CIC at Walter Payton College Prep High School
1034 North Wells Street, Room 106
Chicago, IL

How to teach grammar through student-centered communicative tasks is an area that continues to receive increasing focal attention in the field of teaching Chinese as a world language. This workshop serves as one of the preliminary attempts to discuss student-centered communicative tasks in teaching grammar. Dr. Tseng will clarify the misconceptions in teaching Chinese grammar. She will use sample must-learn grammatical structures at the novice and intermediate levels to demonstrate how student-centered communicative tasks can be created, implemented and assessed. She will also introduce the essence of the postmethod pedagogy and propose future directions for Chinese language educators, practitioners, and researchers to ponder upon, collaborate, and seek resolutions for possible change and reform in pedagogical grammar in relation to teaching, material development, and assessments. Confucius Institute in Chicago invites you to join us for the workshop.
