Artists From China To CPS Schools

As one of the activities to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Dog, the Chicago Chinese Language Center invited three artists from China to bring Chinese folk art of puppet, dough figurine and paper-cutting into CPS schools.

From February 20 to March 16, the three Chinese artists went into 20 schools and gave 46 seminars to more than 2,000 CPS students. Through presentations, demonstrations and hands-on activities, the three artists helped to enrich our students’ knowledge of Chinese culture and enhance their learning of the Chinese language. The participating schools, students and teachers were thankful to the contribution the three artists made to promote cross-cultural understanding between the U.S. and China.

It has been 10 years for CIC to provide the program of “Chinese Artists in CPS Schools” The program has been a powerful tool to integrate Chinese culture into Chinese language classrooms. In the past years, the program had featured artists specializing in various traditional Chinese arts and handcrafts including Chinese painting, woodblock printing, paper-cutting and kite making.
