A Celebration of Chinese Culture

The 3rd annual Chinese Cultural Festival, organized by the Confucius Institute in Chicago (CIC) and Chicago Public Schools (CPS), took place at Whitney Young Magnet High School from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, Sept. 24. More than two thousand CPS students, their siblings and parents, and members from the public attended the festival.

CPS students spent four weeks in China over the summer

Twenty-four CPS high school students traveled to China this summer. They attended a four-week intensive Chinese immersion program at the Hangzhou Wanxiang Polytechnic (WXP), a trade college in Hangzhou, China. The program is part of the President Barack Obama’s 100,000 Strong Initiative and is funded by the generous support from the Wanxiang American Corp in Chicago and the Wanxiang Group in Hangzhou.

This is the fifth year that Wanxiang supported the program.

CIC and CPS students celebrating Chicago's Asian Festival

The City of Chicago featured many activities in the celebration of the Asian and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month in May. CIC and CPS students took pride in staging performances to celebrate the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans at the Daley Plaza on May 18.

This year’s Asian Festival was co-hosted by the local Chinese community and the Pakistani community.  CIC & CPS students in the Chinese World Language Program were invited to present a number of performances showing Chinese culture.
